St. Augustine Creek
From the ICW to the S/V Anole at Bull River Bridge
From the north, if your coming down the ICW, you will come out
of "Fields Cut" and go straight across the Savannah River.
The you will pass the "South Channel" of the Savannah River. Do not
enter....you WILL run aground.
Right after you pass that channel you will come to
St. Augustine Creek. If you just keep in the middle of the creek
there is plenty of water all the way to Bull River Bridge.
Bull River bridge is NOT passable by sailboat.
As you approach the bridge you will see (if it is not out on a trip)
a big (100 ft.) gambling boat.
(hint: if a 100 foot boat can pass on
this creek, you can)
You will want to anchor on the
opposite side of the river as close to the bank as possible, or as
close as you feel comfortable. Just keep in mind that our average
tide rise and drop is 7' (yes, seven feet).
So add seven feet to your draft and do not anchor any shallower than
that.
If I was going to anchor in this spot I would use a bow and stern
anchor to avoid any "swing".
An alternative would be to anchor just north of the gambling
boat at the mouth of Richardson Creek.
There you can safely use just a bow anchor and be able to swing and
also be out of the main boat traffic. Yet the bridge and marina
will still be visible.
On a final note: You can hail the "Bull River Marina" via
marine radio. It is monitored.
